Inka Trail 2 days 1 Night
Daily Departures
This is the internationally famous and highly sought after Inca Trail......but the short version. For those of us who on more of a budget, or simply don´t have the time (or strength) for the full Classic 4 Day Trek. This shorter version features just the last two days of the tour, so we will avoid the terrifying Dead Womans Pass and have only easier descents to arrive to the final destination: The Sacred City of Machu Picchu.
Day 1:
The tour starts with a 5.30 am transfer from your hotel in Cusco to the San Pedro Train Station. It will be a beautiful 3 and a half hour ride passing through the lovely Anta Valley on the way to arrive at the starting point of the trek, kilometer 104.
Once there, we will need to be sure to exit the train quickly as they only briefly stop to let
us out. We will first passover the hanging bridge to arrive at our first Inca Site of the day, Chachabamba, where our guide will give us a brief explanation of the site.
We will then begin the trekking portion of the day by walking along original Inca steps towards our first stop, Wiñaywayna. This is an immense archeological site which contains agricultural terraces and an illustrious waterfall that flows from the surrounding mountains. We will recieve a guided tour of the site for about an hour before enjoying our lunch. Afterwards, we will continue for another couple of hours to arrive in time to enjoy the sunset at the Incas Sun Gate. We will spend a short break at the Sun Gate before passing by Machu Picchu on the way down to Aguas Calientes, where we will arrive around 5.30 pm. We will arrive to our predestined hostel to leave our belongings and relax before dinnertime. After dinner you will have the option to go to the steamy hot baths for an additional 10 soles.
Day 2:
For the second day of the journey you will have the option either to take the bus up to Machu Picchu at 6 am or you have the option to wake up before dawn in order to walk up to the “Guardians House before the first buses even depart. That will afford you the chance to experience the stunning sun rise from the Guardians House itself, where you will want to be sure to have a camara with you (of course).
We will then have our tour of the Sacred City while our guide explains to us the rich history of the city and regales us of all that we do know about it. After the guided portion, we will have a couple of hours more to explore on our own. We will have the option to raise up to the point of Waynu Pichu, which the round trip from Machu Picchu to the point and then back down again lasts about one and a half hours. Afterwards, we will descend back to the town of Aguas Calientes in order to have our last launch of the trip before catching our return train to Cusco at around 5.00 pm. You will arrive back to Cusco around 9.00pm.
