Classic Train 2 days
Daily Departures
(ask about availability)
The Classic Train Tour of Machu Picchu is a very popular tour because it allows you see the splendorous City of the Incas, without having to do the walk to do there. It is also different from the 1 Day Train Tour because it is not so œin-and-out. It allows you to have a good, solid day in Aguas Calientes exploring the local area and really getting to know the beautiful jungle pueblo.
Day 1:
On the first day of this tour, you should be ready to be picked up from your hotel or hostel for your transfer to the train station at 6.20 am. We will then board the Machu Picchu train and ride for about 3 ½ hours before we make our first stop where the the passengers that are doing the 2 Day Trail will get off. We will continue for the last half an hour before arriving to Aguas Calientes, where our representative will be there to pick you up at the station in order to transfer you to your accomodations for the night.
Once we arrive to our destination, we will have some lunch and then some free time to explore around the city, and for those who desire, climb the Putukusi Mountain for an amazing view of Machu Picchu. The Putukusi Trail last about 3 hours and goes on for about 1 ½ kilometers.
Another option for you is to go to the natural hot springs that are located in the pueblo (10 soles entrance) or it is possible to walk to the stunning Waterfalls of Mandor. After the rest of the walkers of the Inca Trail arrive to the town, then we will all have our dinner together.
Day 2:
At approximetely 6.00 am, we will leave, by means of bus, with our direction towards the ancient citadel, Machu Picchu. It will be a nice, scenic ascent up the mountain and will last about 30 minutes long.
When we arrive to the site, we will have our guided tour that will last about 2 1/2 hours long before having some of our own personal time, which can be used to explore on your own, or even just to sit under the tree in the main plaza and try to imagine how the Incas lived in this magical city so long ago. For the daring, you can also climb up the immense and gorgous mountain, Waynu Picchu.
It is recommended that you leave for the Waynu Picchu trail immedietly after the guided tour portion, as only 400 passengers are allowed to climb it daily. The trek will last about an hour and a half (round trip). It is just important to return down to the pueblo on time for your train ride back to Cusco (times vary depending on what option you chose).
