Inka Trail 4 days

MACHUPICCHUDaily Departures
(Make your reservations now)

The trek of all treks, the Inca Trails, needs no introduction. By far the most popular of the Inca trails for trekking is the Capaq Nan trail, which leads from the village of Ollantaytambo to Machu Picchu, the "Lost City of the Incas". There are many well-preserved ruins along the way, and hundreds of thousands of tourists from around the world make the four-day trek each year, accompanied by guides. This is a once in a lifetime event that is not to be missed.

Day 1:

The first, and easiest day of the trek begins with our meeting up at the office in order to board our private bus. It should be noted at this point, that you should make sure to have your passport (and your student ISIC card, for whom it applies) with you at this point.

The bus trip to Kilometer 82 will take approximetely 3 hours, with breakfast being served on route. We will then trek for about 3 hours, depending on group ability and weather conditions, alongside the Urubamba River and through patches of forest before coming to our resting spot where we will have our first lunch of the day, the ruins of Llaqtapata.

After lunch, we will have another 2-3 hour trek, while enjoying the beautiful views of Mount Veronica and passing through the village of Wayllabamba along the way, before arriving at our first camping spot. (First Day approx. 14 km and 6 hours walking)

Day 2:

THE LAND OF THE INKASOn the second, and hardest of all the days, we will begin by going to the village of Wayllabamba, where those of you who choose to, can recieve porters to carry your belongs up the dreaded Dead Womans Pass On this day we will walk from an altitude of about 3,000 meters to about 4,200 meters. But not to worry, everybody can go at their own paces, even stopping to take a breather for a few minutes. It will be easy to notice when your energy starts coming back when you descend a bit into the Valley of Pacaymayo. Our campsite will be at 3,600 meters on this, the coldest night of the whole route. (Second Day approx. 12 km and 7 hours walking)

Day 3:

This day is known as the unforgettable day because of the beautiful ruins that we see, the nice, paved portion of the trail, and the fact that this day contains alot more descending and alot less ascending. We will go down 2000 stairs, from Phuyupatamarca down to Wiñaywayna. It is recommended to hire an extra porter if you have had a problem with your knees in the past as this portion can put lots of stress and pressure on them. When we arrive to Wiñaywayna (2,700 meters), we will set up our campsite for the night, and take some guided tours of the beautiful and extensive ruins in the surrounding area.

It should also be noted that you should take extra special care of your valuable possesions at this camp site, as all of the tours for the Inca Trail camp in this same area. Also, apart from the streams that we will pass on our way, the only way to bathe on the way is here on the third night at the local public shower for 5 soles for 8 minutes of hot water. A bar and a restaurant can also be found in this pueblo so feel free to relax. (Third Day approx 16 km and 6 hours walking)

Day 4:

INKA TRAIL TO MACHUPICCHUWe will have an extremely early wake up on this day, in order to arrive on time to watch the splendor of the first bits of sunlight illuminating the Sacred City, from the stunning Sun Gate, or Inti Punku. It will be another 20 minute walk from there to arrive to the ruins and the famous view overlooking the whole site from the terraces.

It is best to take your pictures in this early part of the morning before the crowds begin showing up at around 10.00 am. Your own guided tour of Machu Picchu should end somewhere between 10.30 am and 11.00 am and then you will have some personal time that you can use to explore the ruins on your own, or if you still have in you, then you can try to take on the immense Waynu Picchu (1 ½ hours walking round trip), but keep in mind that only 400 hikers maximum are able to climb it so it is recommended that you start it right after your tour is done.

After you are done at the site, it will be another 45 minute walk to get down to Aguas Calientes (or it is also possible to take the bus down)(Fourth Day approx 7 km and 2 hours walking)

Backpack and daypack, -5 c sleeping bag (can be rented from us), Hiking boots, Warm clothes (layered clothes are recommended), Walking poles (specifically for the stairs), t-shirts and shorts for sunny days, Flash light w/ batteries, Camara w/ extra film, sun screen, hat, sunglasses, insect repellent, poncho, passport and ISIC card, extra cash, toiletries, water for first day, bathing suit for the hot springs.
