Peru and Bolivia share the same territory over the highest navigable lake in the world. It is the center of a big upland of 200 000 km2, it is known as The Collao Plateau. It is located 3.809 meters above the sea level, it has an extension of 8.562 km2, and 285 meters is its maximum deep. The total volume of the water is 903 km3. This upland is a closed basin and it doesn't have connection with any ocean. It has only one River, Desaguadero River; this evacuates just 5% of the water to Poopo Lake, located at south. There are many islands on the Lake, the most important are Amantani, Taquile, Soto, Anapia and Uros, each one of them has a different attractive. Uros Floating Island
It is one of the classic places that can be visited in the surondings of Puno. Its population lives over totora or aneas (a cattail type rush growing native in the lake) and they are skilful fishers and artisans. Each island is habited for between 30 to 50 people. The Uros people, some of them speak Aymara, and they have built their houses and roofs with totora. This community is dedicated to fishing and particularly to host tourists. Location: It is 5 kilometers north from the city of Puno, It can be found in the Chucuito Bay (3.810 meters above the sea level) Weather: It is cold and dry. It attenuates because of the water mass that evaporates constantly.
